FAQ

The Pap test is a cytological analysis of cells collected from the cervix that enables early detection of changes and represents an important part of preventive gynecological care.

The Pap test is recommended as part of regular preventive gynecological examinations, as well as when there is a need to monitor cervical changes or follow HPV infection.

During a gynecological examination, the doctor collects a small sample of cells from the cervix using a special brush or spatula. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for analysis.

The Pap test is a quick and generally painless examination. Most women experience only mild and brief discomfort during sample collection.

Sample collection takes only a few minutes and is part of a standard gynecological examination.

It is recommended not to perform the examination during menstrual bleeding. It is also advised to avoid sexual intercourse and the use of vaginal products 24 to 48 hours before the test, unless otherwise recommended by the gynecologist.

A normal result means that no significant changes in cervical cells have been detected. The gynecologist will recommend when the next check-up should be performed.

An abnormal result does not necessarily mean that a serious condition is present. Depending on the findings, the gynecologist may recommend additional examinations, such as HPV testing, colposcopy, or other diagnostic procedures.

The frequency of testing depends on age, previous results, and the gynecologist’s recommendation. Regular check-ups are important for early detection of changes.

Regular Pap tests enable early detection of cervical changes, often before symptoms appear, increasing the possibility of timely monitoring and treatment. At Belgrade Polyclinic, examinations are performed with a professional approach, modern medical standards, and dedicated care for the health of every patient.
